Pray For Your Spouse Challenge

Sometimes as Christians when we hear the word "pray" we think of it more as an obligation than a privilege. But prayer/praying is a privilege because it allows us time to not only communicate with our Heavenly Father, but it reveals to us the heart and mind of God.

There is a saying that goes like this: "If you only pray when you're in trouble, then you're in trouble." God desires to commune with us, that is what relationship is all about. If you only spoke to your spouse when you needed something or not at all, then chances are you wouldn't have a very good marriage relationship. Billy Graham hit the nail on the head when he remarked on the importance of prayer. He said, "In the morning, prayer is the key that opens to us the treasures of God’s mercies and blessings; in the evening, it is the key that shuts us up under His protection and safeguard."

So when we pray for our spouse, it opens the door for transformation in not only our spouse but also us. Prayer in marriage is not just about checking your daily "to-do list" box that you've prayed for your spouse, but it's an opportunity to have alone time with God to share your heart and for Him to share His heart with you. When we pray for our spouse God gives us greater insight into what it takes to love each other on a greater, deeper level. He gives us revelation, wisdom and grace to manage and maintain a healthy, strong marriage.

It feels good to know that someone is praying for you on a daily basis. Let's be real... some of us probably wouldn't be where we are today or enjoying our life if it wasn't for the prayers of others that kept, sustained and built us up. Our focus should shift to praying for our spouse instead of praying about our spouse. Like we stated before when we pray "for" our spouse it opens the door for God to not only transform our spouse but us as well.
